Nerg?

Are you a NERG?

A conversation between a student and another resource teacher.

Randy: (speaking to Ben) "Your a nerg."

Teacher: "What did you say Randy?"

Randy: "I said Ben was a nerg."

Teacher: "What's a nerg?"

Randy: "You know...someone who wears glasses. That's a nerg."

Teacher: "Oh....well that's interesting. I wear glasses and I'm not a nerg." (pointing to Robin) "She wears glasses and she is not a nerg." (pointing to Ben) "Ben is not a nerg."

Randy: "huh..."

Teacher: "You know Randy, you are the ONLY person in the room who doesn't have glasses."

Randy: (begins whining) "Oh no! I want glasses!"

Tiffany Barker ~ M.Ed.

My portfolio was approved! I am officially finished with grad school...unless I go back to get my specialist. I must be nuts for even thinking about another degree!

It was such a relaxing weekend. Justin met me at work Friday. We went to dinner, looked at houses, ate ice cream, and spent some time playing a Mother Goose game with my friend's daughter. Saturday I actually read a book of my choice! That night I went to visit my friend Leana. We went shopping and had dinner at Longhorn. Another relaxing evening.

Sunday I went grocery shopping. I got the Sunday paper and a bunch of new home brochures. I spent the entire afternoon reading! What a wonderful weekend. I think what made it so great was the fact that I did not have to think about writing any papers! I really feel rested and ready for ANOTHER week of standardized testing.

Testing...Testing...

I just love standardized testing. ITBS, CogAT, Standford 9, Gateway...they are awesome! Just kidding. After a morning of testing with a group of EBD and LD 5th graders I am ready to beat my head against a wall...really hard. The kids have been real troopers (god I sound like a teacher)! Half way through the test they were all about to fall asleep including me. I took them on a walk around the school to help wake them up. Tomorrow is math. Then we have two days of make-ups and more testing ALL next week. I will have tested for 2 weeks straight!

Other news: Martha is doing better. I went to the hospital after work on Monday. She broke out in some sort of rash. But she did take a few steps. She was really with it when I was there but then they brought in the drugs. Shortly after I left the A.P. and two other teachers from my school showed up. Apparently the drugs had kicked in by then. When I got to school to day I got the run down of what Martha said/did:
  1. Insisted to sing to her choir director over the phone...she refused to talk she wanted to sing!
  2. Told Annette (sp. ed. teacher) that she (Martha) could not believe that I let Betty Ann (A.P.) cut my hair into a mohawk! Supposedly I really hate it!
  3. Clifford the Big Red Dog and Barney came to visit along with some beautiful butterflies.
  4. She told Betty Ann that the kids were being really bad. She was taking names and they would have to discuss it later.
  5. According to Martha, Annette is pregnant (not really) and Bonnie (sp. ed. teacher) is walking around with her shirt over her head flashing everybody!

Martha is suppose to be moving to a rehab place on Wednesday. We all can't wait to tell her the silly things she said!

Hurry Up and Wait

My portfolio is completed and in the mail! Now I will be waiting anxiously for the approval of my masters degree. I hope to know something by next weekend. I think the waiting is going to be just about as bad as completing the portfolio. Watch the professors make mine an example of what not to do.

I am meeting Justin in Atlanta for dinner tonight. That will be a nice end to this weekend:)

Personal Day

I am taking a personal day on Friday to work on the rest of my portfolio. I don't have to send it until Monday the 13th but my goal is to finish it on Saturday the 11th. Julie and her husband Chris have put together my portfolio video for me. I must say it looks great! Here is a quick run down of what's been happening this past week...

Mon: No work...stayed home and worked on my portfolio.

Tues: Rainy day to say the least. Many schools in the area where closed due to power outages. I had 5 students absent...I guess they don't like the rain. Martha (my 2nd mom and lady I work with) was in a car accident on the way to work. She hurt her back so she stayed home...on the living room floor. I went over to Julie's to work on my video after work.

Wed: Found out that Martha was taken to the hospital. She broke her back in 3 or 4 different places. Justin came up to my school. Justin, Keri (new special ed. teacher at work), and I went to see Martha at the hospital. She was in good spirits...heavily medicated. Justin and I went to dinner and then bowling. I got home around 7:30. Put some pics on a CD and took it over to Julie's. Beverly (principal) called around 9pm. She was concerned because Martha's husband had to leave town to go get Martha's mom in Alabama. Beverly wanted me to have the people in the special education department take turns staying with her in the hospital.

Thurs: Got to school, coordinated hospital shifts and got coverage for our classes. I had the first shift, 9-10. Martha was in sooooo much pain. She was throwing up and completely out of it. Her nurse SUCKED! Left work at 4:30 (yeah....an early day)! Went to Julie's to finalize my video. Now I am home and need to go to bed.

I hope my next posting will be titled - "I am finished with grad school...forever!"

Portfolio Woes

Still working on my portfolio...be back to blogging soon!
