I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night. I would give it a C+.
What I Liked:
Grandpa Joe (very funny)
Charlie (too cute)
Johnny Depp (he's hot - just not in this movie)
Willy's flashbacks to his childhood (gave the movie a new twist)
What I Didn't Like:
The Oompa-Loompas (very scary, terrorist type little men)
The Music (the songs sucked)
The Factory (too industrial looking)
Johnny Depp's hair (just plain weird)
Tim Burton's filming style (never really liked it)

I've heard it said that Johnny Depp's portrail reminded some of Michael Jackson, for both childlike behavior and strangeness. Would you say this is true, in your opinion? I certainly don't want to see a movie that's going to remind me of Michael Jackson!
Maybe it was the light skin and dark hair. I really did not notice any MJ type behavior. I'm not saying the Johnny Depp's role wasn't weird - it was. It just did not remind me of MJ.
Sorry this is off the topic, but I just read about your brother's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what that must feel like. I will hold you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
we liked the oompas and the songs. we thought they were more like the book. we didn't like the wonka backstory
