Flat Stanley

I got a Flat Stanley in the mail from my cousin in New York. In case you haven't heard of F.S., here's what it's all about. In the book, Flat Stanley, Stanley is squashed flat by a falling bulletin board. One of the many advantages is that F.S. can now visit his friends by travelling in an envelope. Students make paper F.S. and passports. Then F.S. and the passports are sent to a friend or family member. They treat F.S. as a guest, complete the passport and then send F.S. onto his next destination. F.S. and the journal are then returned to the original sender. Students can plot his travels on maps and share the contents of the passports. I took my F.S. to work with me. I let my 4th grade writing class fill out his passport. Check out this website with lots of F.S. pictures. This guy really gets around: China, Russia, the White House, etc...
